Demonstrated various strategies, databases, and skills that can be used to investigate political candidates, both incumbents and newcomers, in the 2024 election, from local races all the way up to the presidential campaign. This session included instruction on basic FOIA requests, campaign finance, essential investigative research tools, and analysis of public records.

Backgrounding local elections: The questions, documents, and data the public needs

As challenging as Congressional and other federal elections are to properly cover, local races often have gotten less of a spotlight. This conference workshop walked through how you can better cover local elections, no matter your experience or bandwidth. We'll walked through a range of techniques to background political candidates running for office, including requesting public records, analyzing personal financial disclosures and more.

Buying elections: what you should know about campaign finance

Presenting to the League of Women Voters Civic Education Committee, I provided greater insight and understanding of how political campaigns are paid for, how to find out who is providing the money, and what the consequences of this system are.
